I guess I should start with a Journal Post to give some insight into myself.
I joined Deviant Art just now so that I could have a place to build an online portfolio of my work. You see, I am a major in Vissual Communications. I really want to get into a job or an internship (which im required to take before i can graduate ; in the graphic design field. Uhm most the stuff i'm going to put up today is really really old stuff 3-4 years old now. Its not very good as it was mostly done before i began training.

Hopefully it wont turn people away too much and they'll check back in a week or two when i get my new work uploaded. It's on the school's servers i gotta get it off there and onto my own space etc. I also have paintings/sketches/drawings that i need to scan.

Alot of these older pics were done with a mouse. I now have 2 graphic tablets so the quality of my work is much much nicer now. Haven't even tried the newer tablet. Just got it yesterday.

So I guess I should tell a little about myself.

My name is Jen. I go to Slippery Rock University. I'm a junior here and expecting to graduate december 2006 or spring 2007 at the latest with my BS in Communication and emerging technology and design. It's a bit more than just making pretty graphics. It also requires me to take a few low level programing classes and a whole lot of communication classes. most of the classes seem to almost parallel journalism. Im required to take alot of writing classes and newsroom type classes. A class on research methods and communication law and so on and so forth. But it was about the closest I could get to what I wanted to do. It does involve alot of photoshop and flash and dreamweaver and yadda yadda yadda.

Before coming to Slippery Rock I attended Santa Rosa Junior College in Northern California. It was a really pretty campus. Miss it there sometimes. I was an art major there with emphasis on technology and design. Kinda similar to my current major although instead of taking alot of journalism type classes I had to take alot of Traditional Art classes, painting, drawing, sculpture, etc. I learned the principles of design and color composition and porportions and so on. I went there for almost two years but only about 35 of my credits transfered over when i moved back home to PA. >_<; It is a pain although I am grateful for the experience of having now two well rounded educations that will benefit me hopefully someday when I go to look for a job.

I have a personal journal, this is not the place for that so you will not see posts about my romance life or social life or anything like that here. This is for my art and my thoughts/comments on my art. Maybe small updates about school, interns, work, etc.

But even so, I feel it is appropriate to tell a little bit about myself. I am 24 years old. I was born in California but grew up in Western PA. I attended Mercer Highschool and then Moved back to California to stay with relatives while I attended college. Due to alot of dumb choices on my behalf I ended up taking a year off from school to move to Idaho for a few months. Things didn't work out there and the relatives I had been staying with in california had now relocated to Oregon. I decided I might as well return home to PA and after I passed the residency requirements, I continued my education at SRU.

I have many hobbies. Among the greatest interests in my life however is my love for videogames and japanese animation (anime). My collection of videogames is vast with numbers well over the 500 mark. The estimated value of my collection according to some website was well over 7,000 dollars for the games alone, not counting all the consoles. I own (and still play!!) the following systems: Magnavox Oddyesse, Atarii 2600, Nes, Snes, Genesis, 32x, Sega Cd, Saturn, N64, Ps1, Ps2, Xbox, Dreamcast, Gamecube, Psp, Ds, Gamegear, Gb Sp, I feel as if I am forgetting some.. lol.

My favorite genre of games is RPG but I play anything and everything. I enjoy raceing games, fighting games, action/adventure games, platform games, shooting, party games, you name it -- I play it. ^^ And I kick butt too. I am especially good at the Soul Calibur series. I can beat almost anyone, male or female. My favorite character is Killik. I also like Voldo. First time I ever played, I beat all four of my old roommates on each and every character. I own my current boyfriend so badly that he gets pouty and refuses to play with me after a few matches. lol ^^ I cant wait to pick up SC3 but im waiting til I get my xbox360 which is on preorder so that I can play it online with my friends.

My all time favorite gaming series is Lunar. I love it for it's beautiful artwork, music, and the touching love story. Also ghaleon is hot lol ^_~. I am a huge Working Designs Fan I own each and every single friggin one of their games (except for the ones they had on turbo duo as i do not own that console (yet)) lol.

A very close seccond runner for me is Xenogears. It's story is amazing and it took me over 65 hours to beat the first game.

Of course who doesn't like final fantasy. My favorite in the series is 6, known as 3 in america. What I liked about 6 was all the hidden things, characters like the moogles, yetti, and gogo, dreamscenes like shadow's, hidden weapons like the dirk (which i couldnt find), the opera house, the battle arena, sooo much to do. It was a good game.

I'm also a biiiig fan of Grandia which is made by Gamearts Japan which also makes lunar in japan. Grandia 2 has one of the best storylines. I love Millenia. I really want to cosplay as her!

I like Atlus also. Thousand Arms, Persona, Rhapsody, hmm my mind has gone blank lol. I own alot of their games though.

My favorite computer game is an older rpg called Torment. I love the non-linearness of it. It also had a very intriguing storyline.

I also love Star Ocean. Two on ps1 was my personal favorite. I loved the crafting system. It was very amazing.

Oh and I love Valkyrie Profile very much! I wish they would make a sequel to it. It was hard though! lol My time kept running out.

God I could go on about games forever. and no doubt I probably will. But I have to get going to class soon so I'm moving on for a moment.

On the anime front a few of my personal favorites are: chobits, Fushigi Yuugi, Full moon Wo sagashite, Star Ocean Ex, Wild arms (another good game too lol), To Heart, Kannon, Orphen, Pretear, Gokudo, Dragon Half, Fortune Quest, Magic User's Club, Rayearth, Akira, Mononoke, Spirited Away, Tokyo Revelations, X/1999, Rg Veda, Windaria, Tenchi, Slayers, Ranma, Inuyasha, Fruits Basket, Wolf's Rain, Aishiteruze Baby, Snow Fairy Sugar, Bottle Fairys, Evangellion, Rosen Maiden, Utena, Trigun, Cowboy Bebop, Hyper Dolls, Project Ako, Maison Ikkoku, Escaflowne, Ah my Goddess, Please Save My Earth, Saber Marrionettes J, Love Hina, and Shinesmen

Whew... as you can see I could go on about anime forever too! But I still have other things I want to say and only 20 minutes to say them lol.

I love animals. I have 2 dogs although they both stay with my mom currently. One is a bichon/shitzu mix named Bandit, the other is a Pomerarian/Chihuahua mix named Mittens. I have a cat (staying with me) named Chloe. She is like the love of my life. Such a good cat. She's never had any accidents or anything ever since day one. I got her from a shelter as a little baby. She's such a good girl. She loves everyone and isnt afraid of anyone. She is a cuddle slut too. lol. I also have 2 guineapigs. They're going on almost 2 yrs old now! Pumpkin and Pretzle. lol. They're adorable but not as tame as I wish they would be ; ; Pumpkin tries to bite everyone lol. I love other animals, horses, tigers, bunnies, lions, wolves, coyetes, etc. I also love watching fish aquariums but dont own one because its too much work for my tastes lol.

Aside from games/anime my other hobbies include: drawing, painting, computer graphics, internet, swiming, camping, amusement parks, movies, rennisance faires, costumes, cosplaying, dungeons and dragons, world of darkness, roleplaying, magic the gathering, card games, board games, stuffed animals, etc.

I really need to get going. Maybe I will get some artwork up here over the weekend or over my next break. I'll also try to make a profile.
